Personal profile

A bacteriologist specializing in human genetics, she holds a PhD in Biological Sciences and a Master's degree in Biology and Philosophy from the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana. With more than 30 years of teaching and research experience, she has developed studies in medical genetics, molecular biology, and genetic epidemiology. Her commitment to social responsibility is reflected in her work with patient associations and her participation in the Latin American Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Consortium. She has led projects on rare diseases, with a special interest in Sanfilippo syndrome, promoting initiatives to raise awareness and support for patients and their families. She has also won multiple calls for social projects aimed at disadvantaged communities, working on education, prevention, and healthcare access strategies. She is a researcher recognized by the Ministry of Sciences (MINciencias), has participated in various scientific publications and international conferences, and has received awards for her academic and social career. She is currently a professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the Pontifical Javeriana University, where she continues to train professionals with a comprehensive view of genetics and its impact on society.
