PhD in Biological Sciences and Master in Microbiology with emphasis in Immunology from Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, with undergraduate studies in Bacteriology from Universidad Colegio Mayor de Cundinamarca. Fellow in Gastroenterology Research at Baylor College of Medicine, Houston - Texas - USA and advanced courses in conservation and maintenance of microorganisms in Biological Collections at the University of Valencia - Spain and the National Autonomous University of Mexico. Professor II of the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana and Senior Researcher of MinCiencias. Extraordinary visiting professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia in Lima, Peru and visiting professor at the Faculty of Medicine of the Universidad Nacional de Colombia, Bogotá.
Recipient of numerous awards and distinctions for her research activity granted by the National Academy of Medicine, Colombian Society of Gastroenterology, INVIMA/WHO/PAHO, among others. Woman of Success in the category Science and Technology 2013. Author of numerous scientific publications on the study of Helicobacter pylori and gastroduodenal diseases related to the infection such as gastric cancer, has described for Colombia the state of the art of the molecular mechanisms of resistance of H. pylori to antimicrobials and the effectiveness of therapies used in the treatment of this bacterium, currently focusing her research on the search and development of new drugs for the eradication of H.pylori. Co-author of the clinical management guidelines of H. pylori for Colombia. From 2001 to date she has been the director of the Microorganism Collection of the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana, for which she obtained the international seal granted by the World Federation of Culture Collections, making this collection the first and only collection of microorganisms with this recognition in Colombia. From 2015 to 2020 she served as Director of Graduate Studies of the Faculty of Sciences and since June 2021 she serves as Dean of the Faculty of Sciences of the Pontificia Universidad Javeriana.
