Research Student Group in degradation of polluting plastic polymers

  • Postal address

    Colombia

Organization profile

Research fields

Physical, chemical and microbiological degradation studies in: Low and high density polyethylene Polypropylene Polystyrene Polyurethane Other polluting polymers

Organization profile

It focuses its interest on physical and/or chemical pretreatments of plastic polymers and other polluting solid waste, and on the search for microorganisms that potentially biodegrade these materials. It will involve field work (collection of contaminating solid waste and isolation of potential microorganisms) and laboratory (sample processing, physical and/or chemical pretreatments and biological treatments) and it is expected to contribute to the search for physicochemical, environmentally friendly strategies that favor the biodegradation of these materials.Likewise, it is intended that its members integrate knowledge in biology, microbiology, chemistry, physics and statistics, for the analysis and discussion of the results obtained in the experiments carried out, as well as the acquisition of skills and abilities in the handling of instruments and equipment used for this purpose.
