Mystical Studies research group is an inter(inter)disciplinary space that seeks a theoretical understanding of the affective and everyday experience of different forms of spirituality through research and creation, in tandem with intercultural dialogue. In a society where "the imperative of consumption diverts attention from spiritual demands [and where] the feeling of spiritual emptiness is on the rise" (hooks 2021, p. 98), our study group questions the vital and creative importance of mysticism as a loving and fulfilling experience of life (Haas 2003). We propose that the recovery and updating of certain types of spiritual discourses and experiences can serve as ethical and political pathways for building a communal thread that questions its own existence and becoming, as well as the importance of intercultural, inter-religious, and ecumenical dialogue for processes of peace and creativity.
