Organization profile

Since 2015 (International Year of Light and Light-based Technologies), the International Day of Light has been celebrated every May 16 in which, under the auspices of UNESCO, different activities are promoted aimed at disseminating the importance of photonics and its applications in the development of humanity. Activities are proposed not only in the field of science and technology, but also in the impact of photonics on sustainable development, culture, arts and education at a global level (https://en.unesco.org/commemorations/dayoflight). In order to promote the dissemination of the study of light and its applications, the creation of the IEEE/Photonics-PUJ chapter of the IEEE Javeriana Branch was proposed, with the participation of students, both undergraduate and graduate, from the faculties of engineering, sciences, dentistry and architecture.
